Plant Profile
Culver's Root - (Veronicastrum virginicum) is a native wildflower that prefers average, medium to wet soil. The plant will flourish in full sun or light shade and tolerates a wide range of soil types. Though it can be slow to get established in your garden, it will re-seed heavily as it finds its permanent happy place. It is often naturally found in open woods, moist meadows, and prairies. Flower spikes open from the top down beginning in late spring. Cut the spent flowers to the rosette for possible rebloom in the fall.
Culver’s Root is a stunning plant, reaching heights of 5' with candelabra-like spikes of white flowers that open from the bottom up mid-summer. The small white flowers densely packed together can sometimes take on a purple hue; the contrast of these flowers against the dark green foliage is stunning. Butterflies and numerous solitary bees such as sweat bees, carpenter bees and bumble bees will visit the popular flowers.
